Hi
Crepi is a mix of lime and coloured sand, mixed with water, and used more often outside than inside.
It is often finished with a stiff wire brush (more like nails than bristles) to give the rough surface, but if the crepi you saw had a smooth finish it was perhaps finished more like plaster

Cheers

we went to france last summer and loved tge interior wall finish. we were told it was 'crepie'... it was a rough wheat coloured almost exterior render with a sort of sandstone type texture. it was a superb interior finish... smooth yet rustic.
any help to find what it was would be appreciated.
